Sugar...Cakes...Desserts...Cookies

Wedding cakes have a fascinating history dating all the way back to the Roman Empire. Did you know that wedding guests would throw these fancy cakes at the bride to bestow their best wishes on them?  Could you imagine that happening in this day and age? The once simple wedding cake has now given way to the multi-tiered extravaganza adorned with fresh flowers, crystals, pearls or spun sugar.  Traditional white icing has now been transformed into pinks, purples, blues or any color coordinating with the event.  The newest rage (and our favorite!) is the newly married’s initials placed on the top tier cake.  Cupcakes, chocolate fountains, dessert tables and candy buffets are also new additions.  Adding a little bling bling on the wedding cake is also a huge hit amongst brides and guests.  Whether simple and white or over the top and full of color, we agree that after all these years, it is still an important tradition.  Enjoy these delicious images!

St. Regis Princeville, Lenora + Michael

 I can’t imagine a more amazing venue than the St. Regis Princeville on Kauai.  I’ve always been a lover of Starwood Hotels, especially the Luxury Collection and St. Regis, so this was a real treat.

 Lenora and Michael chose a gorgeous yet understated color scheme for their event.  The trees were dripping with orchids and the weather was absolutely unbelieveable.  I truly felt honored to be a part of their wedding.  The sunset was it's usual...amazing and unforgettable.  Kauai might just be my new favorite spot to shoot.  

 A big thanks to all the wedding planners at the St. Regis, Nesli Gacek, Officiant Kelvin Ho, incredibly talented harpist Anela Lauren and last but certainly not least for Florals is Martin Roberts.  (Did you see those orchids hanging from the trees??  LOVED IT.)

2010 Hawaii Photography Workshops with Mike Colon & Mike Adrian

Well,  the New Year is upon us and the year is looking very bright.  2009 ended up being a challenging year for a lot of photography studios, I think many felt the weight of the sluggish economy and the nominal growth has slowed down the creative fires for many.  But with a new year comes new potential, and what a better way to start the year than by investing in your business and fueling up those creative fires.

To help usher in the theme of growth, I will be teaching, and hosting some amazing workshops in 2010.

The first workshop of the year will be with Mike Colon and his 7 Workshop.  Mike is a good friend and very talented photographer who has been a leader in the wedding industry for the last decade. I have personally attended Mike's workshops in the past and can say that they were a turning point in my carrer.

The next workshop on the calender will be the Mike Adrian LightRoom WorkFlow class. This class will be held on Tuesday February 16th in Maui.  I will be teaching a complete LightRoom workflow from import to export of final product.  This is a must for all levels of photographers looking at understanding LightRoom, and simplifying your workflow. After talking with so many photographers over the past few weeks, the most time consuming area for many studios is the post production workflow.  As Lightroom has become the default image editing software for most Wedding and Portrait photography studios, many photographers find themselves stuck behind the desk editing their life away.  

It's time to get your life back!  Mike Adrian Workshops is re-releasing the step by step guide to getting your life back!  This one day workshop will guide you through a simple LR workflow from import to presentation.  Space is limited to 8 photographers to ensure maximum personal attention.

Dane Sanders, Fasttrack Roadshow Workshop, Maui

The last Week has been nothing but a fun blur of photographers, questions, inspiration, and growth.  It started with my own Mike Adrian Photography Workshop in Honolulu. I had a sold out workshop of 25 ready to be inspired photographers.  The main focus of the workshop was to teach photographers how to shoot full manual in camera, to create a more simple post production workflow back in the studio.  From the photographers comments & feed back the workshop was a success!  

After the workshop I hoped on plane back to Maui, where my good friend Dane Sanders was the speaker at our Maui Pictage User Group's monthly meeting.  The turnout was great and Dane really inspired all the photographers with a great lecture and talk.  Then is was off to South Maui where I hosted Dane's 2 day Fasttrack workshop.  If you have ever seen Dane do a presentation or speaking engagement, he is very captivating and really focuses his attention on getting to know the real photographer inside you.

Overall I had a great time getting to meet so many new photographers, and see how inspired they were to grow their businesses to the next level.  

Look forward to some more great photography workshops coming to Hawaii in 2010.
