St. Regis Princeville, Lenora + Michael

 I can’t imagine a more amazing venue than the St. Regis Princeville on Kauai.  I’ve always been a lover of Starwood Hotels, especially the Luxury Collection and St. Regis, so this was a real treat.

 Lenora and Michael chose a gorgeous yet understated color scheme for their event.  The trees were dripping with orchids and the weather was absolutely unbelieveable.  I truly felt honored to be a part of their wedding.  The sunset was it's usual...amazing and unforgettable.  Kauai might just be my new favorite spot to shoot.  

 A big thanks to all the wedding planners at the St. Regis, Nesli Gacek, Officiant Kelvin Ho, incredibly talented harpist Anela Lauren and last but certainly not least for Florals is Martin Roberts.  (Did you see those orchids hanging from the trees??  LOVED IT.)

Four Seasons Manele Bay Lanai, Esther + Shao-Fei

The Four Seasons Manele Bay has done it again.  I am so lucky to be working with such amazing and talented individuals such as Lacy and Lai from the Four Seasons Manele Bay.

Here are some of the special highlights:
A perfectly executed event with flawless and stunning surroundings.  
2)The lighting on the beach could not have been more beautiful.  
3)The colors were orange and blue and very original. 
4) Esther and Shao-Fei were so nice to work with and had the best sense of humor. 
5) Family from all over the world flew in for this gorgeous event at The Four Seasons Manele Bay.   

Congrats to you Esther and Shao-Fei.  We at Mike Adrian Photographers wish you a lifetime of happiness and bliss.

 

 

 

 

The Photographer's Photographer

 After shooting hundreds of events, the biggest compliment I can still receive is to be hired by one of my collegues.  Two of the top people in my industry on this beautiful island chose ME to photograph their big days.

 The amazingly talented and beautiful Jana Morgan had me photograph her and her husband’s vow renewal last December in Kapalua.  Jana and David live on the Westside with their adorable dogs.  Both of them are highly involved in the wedding photography/design industry.  Their event was awesome!  Kapalua Bay.  Merrimans.  Beautiful Florals.  Incredible people.  Thank you to Jana and David for allowing me to be a part of your special moment!  (Jana you have never looked prettier, wow!)

  Last and certainly not least, the incredibly gifted coordinator from the infamous Haiku Mill, Allie McMillan.  Allie and I do a lot of work together and have enjoyed this friendship for quite some time.  Allie has always called Maui home, and together with her husband Robin and three beautiful daughters, they celebrated a magnificent vow renewal at the Mill.  It was an honor be photographing the event with all their friends and family in attendance.  A really beautiful evening!  It was such a fun change to see ALLIE in a wedding gown all dolled up for once!  Just gorgeous!

 Again, thank you for including me on these very special occasions, it really made me feel loved and honored as a professional photographer.

If The Shoe Fits....

Jimmy.  Manolo.  Stuart.  Kenneth.  Badgley.  No these are not baby names we are talking about these are shoe designers.  From stilettos to bejeweled flip flops to platforms, the bridal shoes run the gamut. 

 Wedding shoes have an enchanting history that continues to influence the look of the footwear that today's brides choose for their stroll down the aisle. Cinderella choose glass slippers.  Princess Di choose pearl encrusted ivory silk flats.  Today’s brides want to make a real fashion statement.  Everyone wants to be unique and feel special.  Let’s face it, the traditional white pump is out.  

 Strappy sandals.  Slingbacks.  Bohemian flats.  Brides choose their shoes to accentuate their own individual style.  Brides are also choosing shoes that they can wear again.  No Bride wants to put her bridal shoes in a closet to never be worn again.  

 We’ve been seeing one thing, and that is COLOR, and lots of it.  Fuschias, blues, reds and pinks and even greens.  

 With all the beach weddings we photograph we also see lots and lots of sandals and flip flops.  Need to dress up a flip flop?  Perhaps you can add a Svarosvki crystal.  

 As you can see below, whether it’s a high heel or a flat, bottom line is it’s imperative for the bride to be comfortable and feel like she is expressing her own style.  Walk this way and enjoy these very special bridal shoes. 

Flowers

He loves me.  He loves me not.  He loves me.  He loves me not.  We all remember being little kids picking the flower petals off a daisy.  Or maybe it was a daffodil.  Wedding flowers have been used since the beginning of time to show people’s well wishes and love to everyone.  The first recorded use of flowers with nuptials was with the ancient Greeks.  Flowers and plants were used to make a crown for the bride to wear and was considered a gift of nature.  Bridesmaids played an active role in the floral decorations process and would make garlands, bridal bouquets and boutonnieres.  Herbs were also used.  Garlic, rosemary, dill and sage were the most commonly used.  They were said to bring on wisdom, lust and knowledge to the new couple.

 The use of flowers today is still in use and an important way to express one’s style.  Here in Hawaii we commonly see of course, tropicals.  Peonies, roses, hydrangeas, lilies, dendrobiums are also popular in the events we photograph.

 A new trend to the traditional bridal bouquet is embellishing with crystals, diamonds, pearls, feathers or rhinestones.  We are also seeing brides including family heirlooms such as necklaces or lockets wrapped around the base of the bouquet.  

 Flowers are a beautiful and fun way to express your style during your big day.  We look forward to seeing many more gorgeous and unique arrangements amongst our amazing brides!

Explore how light works and how to use it creatively to your advantage while on location.

Learn how to control the light by incorporating soft boxes, snoots, reflectors, and bounce techniques, for more professional results. Explore which lighting techniques are best suited to a particular subject and setting. Proper gear and packing techniques for location assignments are also covered.

The morning is dedicated to lectures, demonstrations, and sample ideas; the remainder of the day is spent practicing lighting techniques on location. Participants leave this workshop with confidence in their new lighting skills and the capacity to develop their own lighting techniques and style.

Mike Adrian works with clients to capture their best moments on the wedding day. His work has been featured in national wedding publications, and he has worked and taught alongside some of the industries most talented wedding photographers. Adrian is based in Maui.

Mike Adrian Travelogue Art Show, Paia Tattoo Parlor

 "Travelogue" by Mike Adrian

"Travelogue" opens December 11th at Paia Tattoo Parlor

Travelogue is a collection of limited edition iphonography prints, created in travels over the span of 3 years. The photos originated with the use of a simple little device called the iPhone.  iphonography is a term used for images captured and shared via the iPhone. The work for this show was developed in the style of modern pop art, unique abstract lighting and textures.  

The images in this show have creatively been pressure mounted on reclaimed eco bamboo flooring, giving the final image a distinct look. The work featured is a limited edition production run and will not be created again.

Artist Bio

Mike Adrian is a professional photographer based in Maui, Hawaii.  He travels the world in search of expressive images for both personal work and assignments.  His travels have taken him throughout the United States, Hawaii, Asia, Canada, Mexico and most recently Central America. He is also a instructor at the University of Hawaii, Manoa in the subjects of photography, lighting and business. His work can be seen globally in print, magazine, online edition, and custom installations.
